We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, traditional territory to the Cree, Dene, Nakota, Saulteaux, Ojibwe, and home to the Metis Nation. We acknowledge that Treaty Six was not only signed under force and coercion, but has been broken and promises to First Nations people have not been met. We must be mindful of the trust that has been broken due to the broken Treaty / Promises and more specifically the broken Medicine Box Clause, a clause that was specific to Treaty 6 Territory. We understand that the systems upon which Canada sit, have kept Indigenous Peoples oppressed and marginalized for generations, and has caused immeasurable amounts of physical, mental, emotional, cultural, and environmental harm. We also want to celebrate and recognise that despite all this Indigenous people are flourishing, rising up, and reclaiming their heritage, language and culture. We do the work to unlearn colonial rhetoric, and learn the true history of this country We are dedicated to moving forward in a spirit of Truth And Reconciliation and recognize that Reconciliation cannot come before Truth.
